Try This for Better Brushing

One of the best things you can do every day for your teeth is to give them a good brushing. Well, two brushings, at least. And most people are pretty good at doing that. But as with every other daily habit, it is easy to slip into less-effective methods when brushing. Here are some suggestions to help you brush your very best.

Use a good brush. When was the last time you replaced your toothbrush? Brushing with an old or poor-quality brush is not nearly as effective as with a high-quality instrument. You can have a good experience with either a manual or an electric brush as long as you are consistent and thorough. But make sure it fits well in your mouth and doesn’t have too stiff of bristles.

Take enough time. You should brush for at least 2 minutes every time you brush. This can seem like forever, especially for children, so you can come up with something to help time pass (but that isn’t too distracting.) However you get to 2 minutes, it is important to make them count.

Good technique is key. If you aren’t brushing with good technique, you might not be doing your teeth any favors. Broad, horizontal strokes can hurt your gums and miss parts of your teeth. Instead, use short, vertical strokes holding the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. Make special effort to get hard-to-reach areas and your tongue.
